I bought the second edition of this title after already having the first edition since its release. This edition follows the release of Pavel's "Quick and the dead" book which has a different interval plan for swings, extending the breaks for purposes of optimizing physiological benefits. That new book seems to be counter to the original S&S plan which aimed towards more compressed rest intervals.Now, the new version of S&S takes into account the science that was refined during the testing for the Q &D templates. This is not a minimally updated book. It is well worth buying even if you have the first edition. Pavel has always stated in his early books that the science is not static, but ever evolving, so this latest edition draws on the latest tested template for progress with the best outcome.FWIW.... for me, the price of the new book was worth it to see two photos of John Saxon, of "Enter the dragon" fame pressing a 2 pood kettlebell at Venice Beach... at 71 years old. Makes it hard to make excuses for me in my 60s.
This is by far the best daily training you can do for general training in both strength and cardiovascular. I just really like the simplicity of knowing all I have to do is 100 swings and 10 turkish get ups. The program doesn't leave you taxed so if you want to, you can do other sport activities. I currently do Simple & Sinister 5 days a week and participate in cycling with no degradation in my cycling performance.I just reached the Simple standard the other day (100 one-handed kettlebell swings in 5 minutes and 10 turkish get ups in 10 mins with a 32 kg (~70 lb) kettlebell. In two years, I've noticed that I no longer have any back pain, I feel much stronger, and have more mobility than ever before. Quite recently, I had to carry 50 lb suitcases up and down stairs in the Japan subway system because we couldn't find the elevators. I believe because of this training that this allowed me to not only lift the suitcases without trouble but gave me the cardiovascular fitness to continue going without a lot of rest.
